My sister Camille and I are starting up yet another blog. Collectively, we’ve had more than a few: new beginnings that never mature. This one – Boats and Moats – unlike the others that inevitably fell to the wayside, I have extraordinary faith in. To some extent, we both feel stifled by our present lives: the small town, the daily grind, the monotony of a life with little reflection and celebration. I think (/hope) that this blog serves as a reminder to both of us that our preoccupations and obsessions have value and that our time should be spent on things that make us happy.

Boats and Moats, then, is a fitting title to our new venture. It brings to mind exploration, motion, and freedom, while also invoking obstacles to be overcome, confinement, and stagnation, a sort of cabin fever. This blog will document all of those feelings through the somewhat minute things that color our personal lives: food, fashion, crafts, and other little inspirations.

I don’t mean to be grand, but I’m just so excited to be starting fresh.  So here’s to a good thing!
